Well, this is a hard call. I like the percussion in both for different reasons. This version is soft, indeed, and jazzy; the original had a bit more R&B feel to it. The flute is what make this one really work. Both pieces set a nice mood and follow through.

that jazz flute solo rocks. Ron Burgandy couldn't have done it better.

hehe nicely done.. pays homage to the original and elaborates on it, this is the kind of track that makes these cover contests so much fun. Clapping Clapping Clapping

It's a smooth piece, I like that the first section of the song manages to surprise (especially the bass)
Some sweet, fusion-like synth and flute runs enter.. Very cool!
As the intro returns as an outro the circle is complete.
Although I can hear the melody of the song goes into something else, when the solos enter, I think the transition needs to be stronger, bolder in order to lift the piece. I think a good idea would be, not only to change the melody but also to let the rythm go into various different treatments. Since the intro is so homogenic, if you're gonna really "break out" into a section of solos that also contrasts the intro, then there needs to be a full scale approach in accordance with this, including the bass, melody and possibly the rythm as well.
I think that to begin with, focusing on the solo section could inject more excitement into the song and give it more edge. It delievers the smoothness and the sweetness excellently, but it's almost too soft, to me. After listening to it, It kind of escapes after a while.
